Something Old... Something New S/S 21
Anna Vidal Frugone
2020
All garments have a story to tell, hidden in their wrinkles, stains and tears, a physical record of the body’s inhabitation. In an effort to honour my family, I have upcycled my mother’s wedding dress and distributed it through each of the garments as a way of keeping the memory of it ‘alive’, infusing the collection with personal history, and evoking a reconnection to heritage.
I have hand embroided patterns of wrinkles, simulated small holes and symbolic stains with the intention of elevating these ‘memories’ and speaking to the glory of them. This collection is my response to the devaluation of fashion and aims to highlight the value of craft, the art of making, and the importance of slow fashion practices.
