Master of Information Technology

The (MIT)postgraduate programme builds on the three-year Bachelor's degrees in the same academic field.

Two specialisations are offered: Cyber Security and Data Science.

 

This is a taught masters followed by a significant project integrating within a practical or research context.

Some specialist courses are 85% aligned with IT Industry Certifications.
Available Industry certifications are Ethical Hacking, Network Defender, Digital Forensics and Chief Information Security Officer.

Students have an opportunity to achieve industry certifications while completing MIT.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements

Domestic applicants must

  • Have a Bachelor degree in Information Technology (or equivalent) with a B average in the final year or a Bachelor Honours degree in Information Technology (or equivalent)
or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (or equivalent) followed by relevant professional experience
or
  • Demonstrated equivalent practical, professional and/or scholarly experience.

Qualifications awarded at the same level as an Information Technology Bachelors or Bachelor’s Honours Degree are deemed equivalent if two of the following subjects have been studied to an advanced level: Software development; Web development; Network engineering; Information systems security. Entry at the Discretion of the Programme Head

  • Candidates applying for entry will be required to submit evidence that they meet the entry requirements for the programme.
  • Candidates will be offered entry to the programme at the discretion of the Programme Head of Information Technology

 

International applicants must

  • Turn 18 within their first year of study at Whitecliffe
  • Meet English language requirements: IELTS Test – Academic score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6, or equivalent whitecliffe.ac.nz/apply/international-students
  • Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme, which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of their English language competency
  • Hold a New Zealand qualification or equivalent to any stated above
  • Meet New Zealand visa entry requirements whitecliffe.ac.nz/international-students
