Fashion + Sustainability

Bachelor of Sustainable Fashion Design, Year 3 Whitecliffe Fashion Show 2023

Bachelor of Sustainable Fashion Design

Sourced through chance encounters, The Opportunist aims to bring luxury to the unexpected; taking inspiration from the Japanese concepts of wabi-sabi and kintsugi which glorify imperfection, asymmetry, modesty, and a harmony with nature.

The result, a series of classical women’s evening-wear showcasing the beauty in the overlooked. Through sustainable focuses of up-cycling and low-cost construction, deadstock is given new life in amateur couture. The primary textile: bulk cuts of cotton block print drop cloth direct from India. The primary lining: a fine-woven locally sourced cotton. Features and embellishments sourced second hand all aligning with my sustainable focus.
