“Roots and Renaissance” is a personal exploration of identity - a tribute to the intricate duality of my bicultural heritage. Grounded in the vibrant traditions of my Samoan roots and the layered influences of my European ancestry, this collection reflects the harmony and tension inherent in navigating the evolving journey of self-discovery.
At its core, “Roots and Renaissance” draws inspiration from the structural elegance of Samoan Fales, symbolic of community and shelter, and the fearless spirit of Polynesian voyagers, whose resilience and connection to the natural world charted new horizons. These influences are translated into designs that embody strength, connection, and renewal. Raw, organic textures and fluid silhouettes capture the untamed beauty of growth and change, while structured, architectural elements evoke the grounding power of cultural heritage.
Each piece in the collection is more than a garment; it is a narrative of cultural fusion. By blending traditional techniques with modern aesthetics, I strive to honour the authenticity of both my Samoan and European lineages. The collection serves as an invitation to reflect on identity as fluid and multifaceted, challenging the societal expectation of a singular, defined self.
“Roots and Renaissance” is a statement of resilience, healing, and transformation, a celebration of diversity and the ever-evolving process of becoming. It is my way of contributing to a broader dialogue on understanding and embracing the intricacies of identity, an invitation to celebrate growth, diversity, and the beauty of our collective stories.
