Dr Sally Cloke

Lecturer

Design Innovation

Sally is a lecturer in the Master of Business Innovation and Leadership programme.

She previously worked at Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK, using design thinking as a research and innovation tool across projects in education, healthcare and the creative industries.

Her doctoral thesis and exhibition at the University of Newcastle, Australia, used speculative/critical design to explore whether expressing gratitude toward household appliances could promote sustainable consumer behaviour.

Sally has a continuing research interest in the way that consumer products frame social problems, leading to failed solutions and entrenched inequality.

She enjoys using non-academic pathways – such as videos, exhibitions and media interviews – to share the fascinating world of design research with a wider audience.

Sally’s interests include drawing, writing and discussing politics and philosophy. She is busy getting to know her new city of Auckland.
