Rooshan is a Research Associate at the newly established Centre of Research Excellence at Whitecliffe. As part of the founding staff, she values the opportunity to help develop the foundational research platform. She is an alumna of Whitecliffe, having completed her Master of Information Technology with a focus on Health Data Science.
Rooshan has a background in healthcare and research. She is a registered dentist in Pakistan, where she earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) on a full scholarship. In 2010, she moved to New Zealand and began raising her family. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from Massey University before returning to Pakistan in 2014, where she contributed to public health research.
Rooshan relocated back to New Zealand and pursued a Graduate Diploma in Psychology at the University of Auckland, graduating in 2019. Since then, she has worked in various roles in healthcare and education.
Of all her experiences, Rooshan feels this is her most meaningful opportunity to contribute to cancer research through Artificial Intelligence, a project that sparked passion because of her experience working with New Zealand Breast Cancer data in the past.
Her current research focuses on breast cancer survival analysis using explainable AI and has grown into a multidisciplinary collaboration supported by the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. This initiative brings together researchers, data scientists, clinicians, and epidemiologists from across Aotearoa, united by the shared goal of introducing responsible AI into cancer care in New Zealand.
In her free time, she enjoys nature walks, still moments by lakeside and rarely a good piece of Urdu poetry. She finds joy in hands-on projects. Her endeavours include landscaping a garden, home renovation and navigating the joy of parenthood.
