As Programme Head at Whitecliffe’s School of IT, Professor Azam leads the Faculty of SoIT and brings a strong academic and research-driven approach to curriculum development, student mentorship and strategic leadership. He holds a PhD in Ambient Intelligence and Mobile Sensing for Human Behaviour Analysis from London, UK, and was awarded a Gold Medal for his outstanding performance in BSc Computer Engineering.

A prolific researcher, Professor Muhammad has co-authored over 110 publications in internationally recognised journals and conferences. His research and teaching interests span a range of innovative areas including Internet of Things (IoT), Ambient Intelligence, Mobile Sensing, Cyber Security, Data Science, Recommender Systems, Smart City Applications, and Human Behaviour Analysis. He has supervised 10+ PhD, and 30+ Masters level projects.
In addition to his academic credentials, he is an approved Master Trainer and certified developer of Good Governance Strategies. With a passion for emerging technologies and student success, Professor Muhammad continues to shape the future of IT education in New Zealand and beyond.
He is a people-focused and forward-thinking individual who consistently demonstrates integrity, respect, and collaboration in everything he does. Although his professional background spans IT, research, and academic leadership, he firmly believes that the heart of education lies in empowering others and creating meaningful opportunities for growth.
