New Zealand Student Visa Requirements

To study at Whitecliffe, international students must obtain a valid New Zealand student visa. Below is a guide to the general requirements for securing a student visa:

1. Offer of Place

You must have an Offer of Place from Whitecliffe or another recognized New Zealand education provider. This document confirms your acceptance into a full-time course and provides details such as the course start and end dates.

2. Proof of Funds

You need to demonstrate that you have enough money to cover your living expenses during your stay in New Zealand. As of the latest guidelines, you should show proof of at least NZD $20,000 for each year of study. Additionally, evidence of sufficient funds to pay for your course fees is required.

3. Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your intended date of departure from New Zealand.

4. Health and Character Requirements

  • Medical Certificate: Depending on the duration of your stay, you may need to provide a medical certificate and chest X-ray to prove you are in good health.
  • Police Clearance: A police certificate from your home country may be required to prove good character, especially if you are over 17 and plan to study for more than two years.

5. Insurance

You must have comprehensive health and travel insurance that covers you for the duration of your stay in New Zealand. Whitecliffe can assist in arranging this insurance if needed.

6. English Language Proficiency

Proof of your English language proficiency may be required depending on your country of origin and the course you are applying for. Acceptable tests include IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE Academic.

7. Visa Application Fee

A visa application fee must be paid as part of your student visa application. The fee varies depending on your location and mode of application (online or paper-based).

8. Additional Documentation

You may be required to submit additional documents, such as academic transcripts, a statement of purpose, or evidence of ties to your home country to show your intention to return after your studies.

9. Visa Processing Time

Visa processing times vary, so it’s important to apply well in advance. We recommend submitting your visa application at least three months before your course start date.

10. Working While Studying

A New Zealand student visa may allow you to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) during the academic year and full-time during scheduled holidays, provided your course meets specific criteria.
