Julie Downie completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies whilst living in the UK. The BA in Photography is from the Polytechnic of Central London, which had a strong critical theory component, as was the MA in Photography from the Derbyshire College of Higher Education. As her research interest into collecting and museology grew – this led into a MA in Museum & Gallery Education at the University of London. Teacher training was completed at The City Lit & University of Nottingham. Julie has exhibited in England in several touring exhibitions. She has also curated shows in Auckland and written the catalogue essays. The current research area is in the social anthropology of objects which was channeled into an e-media publication.
Julie has been teaching in various capacities in Auckland since arriving back in 2002. Alongside the role as supervisor within postgraduate level studies.
