A materials list will be emailed with the enrolment confirmation letter

About the workshop:

As Cushla says: “Feel the fear and write it down!” Writing is a necessity for artists, but quite often a challenge. In this course students will work with art writer and speaker Cushla Parekowhai, well known for her lectures and writing on artists such as Michael Parekowhai and Ans Westra.

This course brings a creative approach to art writing and will cover the topics of writing as a visual process, documentation, writing an artist statement, and writing a proposal. Students will also prepare a short presentation for public speaking practice. By the end of the course the students will have written multiple pieces about their artwork and will have the tools to continue writing about their practice.

About Cushla Parekowhai:

Cushla has published extensively on contemporary art related issues particularly those regarding Māori, women, photography and film.
