TUTOR: KATRINA IOSIA
This is a workshop for beginners who are interested in learning the fundamentals of woodblock printmaking. Students will have the opportunity to make contrasting dynamic prints using traditional methods. There will be hands on demonstrations - this is a great way for you to learn and understand the process of woodblock printing. Workshops use water based inks which are easy to clean.
You will learn the following: Chisel techniques, positive and negative space, background and pattern, relief printing techniques, using the press, reduction printing, making clean prints.
PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO THE COURSE:
- Old shirt/apron to work in
- Imagery for ideas and inspiration. Theme ideas can include: Flora and fauna, birds, beach, geometric or cultural patterns
- Notebook and pen
- (other printing materials will be provided)
About Katrina Iosia:
Katrina Iosia is a New Zealand born Niuean artist. She started her training at Unitec (2017) , completing her Bachelor Degree in Design and Visual Arts. As a practicing artist who is multidisciplinary in various mediums, Katrina has been exploring contemporary sculpture utilising her makers skill set drawing on pacific handcrafts, using unique methods and unconventional materials. Katrina also graduated with a Postgraduate Dip in Teaching (Secondary) from the University of Auckland (2018).
