TUTOR: TRISHA NESTOR-SMITH
The Intuitive Drawing Workshop will generate large scale mixed media drawings for those artists with some previous drawing experience. It will run over the weekend as a structured program facilitated to unleash the true artist within.
This type of workshop is an opening up process and allows the artist to engage and draw intuitively and organically to ultimately reveal future art making options and directions with different media connections that may not have been considered before. It is an absorbing, joyful experience which demands complete physical and mental commitment.
We start the drawing exercises at a fast pace to a variety of music stimulations with huge, bold charcoal gestures. Techniques will be purely intuitive - shapes moving to another, spikey to smudged, dynamism, textural surfaces and surprises.
The group will be made up of up to 12 students and together we will go through a fluid series of approaches, interactions and interpretations of mark making to explore and release, then build and change as the workshop progresses.
The drawings will offer a mirror reflection of your inner world to show the artist self revelatory responses to create the work. The pace of the workshop will ultimately be set by the need to bring the work to a form of resolution.
We will discuss the drawings in small groups throughout the workshop as a way to share our experience. Drawing is the engine which drives the nature of the works.
This course is suitable for beginners. Those with previous drawing skills are also welcome.
PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO THE COURSE:
- Charcoal
- Black and white conte sticks
- White chalk
- Variety of erasers
- notebook and pen
- old clothes or apron to work in
