TUTOR: LIAM GERRARD
This course is a comprehensive introduction to drawing, ideal for beginners or anyone looking to refresh or improve their fundamental skills. Through a range of enjoyable drawing exercises, you will learn techniques for analysing and understanding this visual language.
Topics include; memory vs reality, negative spaces, lines & shared edges, tone, mark-making, media experiments, perspective & proportion, self-directed projects, and an introduction to life drawing.
Observational drawing is closely connected to the basics of perception, and with practice, this class will aim to strengthen general skills such as; attentiveness, patience and improvisation. The majority of classes will provide objects and images for drawing but for some exercises, students are encouraged to bring source material (objects or images).
THE 6 WEEKS COURSE WILL RUN FROM THURSDAY EVENING 8 MARCH TO 12 APRIL
EACH CLASS WILL START AT 6PM AND FINISH AT 9PM.
About Liam Gerrard:
Liam Gerrard is an Auckland based artist and illustrator, working predominantly in large-scale charcoal drawing. Since graduating from Elam School of Fine Art in 2009 Liam has exhibited regularly at Sanderson Contemporary Art Gallery. Liam’s work oscillates between bold, confronting portraiture and intricate floral scenescapes, all hinged upon fundamental drawing techniques.
