The Whitecliffe Certificate of Arts and Design Foundation programme began on 18 July with thirty-eight aspiring artists and designers. Our eighteen-week certificate programme focuses on developing creative skills in general drawing, painting and design courses, while offering opportunities for more focused sampling and exploration within four areas: Fine Arts, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Photography. The programme also concentrates on developing a portfolio for application to ongoing tertiary study at Whitecliffe, elsewhere in New Zealand or overseas. Under the guidance of Whitecliffe faculty, students are assisted to reveal their creative potential and supported through a curriculum specifically focused on building both skills and confidence. Current Foundation students Alex Watene, Georgia Carr and Tom Walden talk about their experiences so far:
“The course is helping me to translate my imagination into my work.” -Alex Watene
"So far, the Foundation programme has been pretty full on. Before I began the course, I just made things, now I am making art with more meaning."–Georgia Carr
“Before starting the course I was an electrician and I had never tried painting. I have found that I really enjoy it more than I thought I would. The course is teaching me a different way of thinking - thinking laterally rather than in a straight line." –Tom Walden
We wish the students a warm welcome and an inspiring and challenging semester!
Applications are now being accepted for our full year English language and art Foundation programme (for international students) and our one semester (18 weeks) Foundation programme, both starting in February 2015. If you are interested in more information or to enroll, please visit our website.
