Last week we were honoured to host famous English Graphic Designer, James Goggin who spoke with Whitecliffe students. James is now based in Providence, USA where he teaches at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design
James, alongside partner Shan James (a BFA Fashion Design major Graduate of Whitecliffe), founded the graphic design studio Practise in London in 1999. James has worked and exhibited his design work extensively in Europe and the USA and he has served both as a critic and contributing writer to many esteemed schools and publications.
HOD Graphic Design, Jonty Valentine commented that having James speak “was a very rare opportunity to meet and interact with a designer whose work and writing we in New Zealand normally only access on-line or from books. James is one of a group of internationally influential ‘thinking’ graphic designers who is articulating the cutting edge of graphic design as being an expanded practice that blurs or actually ignores traditional lines between commercial work and research and performance.”
A visual gallery of James’ work can be found on his website.
