The year has begun with much enthusiasm by all. Due to the increase in the numbers of undergraduates, Clay Alcock and Christian Wolfgramm (Wolf) have been busy preparing walls for a change to Studio 1 which has now become two studios. Faculty are preparing for the new intake and gearing up for the returning students. This year we will have a stream of Foundation starting at the same time as our Year One intake. So Whitecliffe will be full of students in February.
The Masters of Fine Arts seminar has just finished, where new students joined the graduating students; 12 of the latter had their own special exhibition down at the St Georges Bay Road studios. Our guest speaker this year was Eleanor Heartney from Queens, New York. Her guest lecture at the Auckland City Art Gallery was an outstanding success. All the students gathered for a final farewell and drinks at my house on Wednesday after the seminar concluded.
The staff have been working hard in gearing up to new IT systems and structures to improve the life of the students. We look forward to an exciting 2014. Hopefully we will see plenty of participation in activities in and around the College as they come up. Last year those who were involved in outside exhibitions did particularly well, and we feel positive that we will be able to repeat last year’s successes. Make sure you read your emails and keep up with the newsletters and our Facebook page so you don’t miss out on any opportunities.
