Congratulations Louella Huang, Year 3 Fashion Student who made it to the Top 10 finalists in the Westpac Young Fashion Designer Competition. Louella presented her collection Innocuous which was 'inspired by the film Howl’s Moving Castle. The movie displays a childlike sense of wonder that has inspired the mood of her collection.
The top 10 designers were chosen by a judging panel comprised of Zambesi menswear designer Dayne Johnston, Remix editor Tina Moore and Viva’s digital and fashion features editor Zoe Walker. The finalists had a week from the end of August to attract as many public votes online.
The competition was a good exercise for Louella as she had to market herself and promote her range to the general public. Louella created a QR code that clicked through to the Westpac Facebook page – helping her peers to more easily cast their votes. Her collection was also displayed in the foyer of Balfour Road for the week that votes were open.
Three designers with the most votes were selected to travel to Auckland and present their collections in front of the judges during New Zealand Fashion Week at the Westpac Red Collection Show. The winner was announced live at the event.
