In March, Head of Fine Arts Noel Ivanoff travelled to Antwerp in Belgium, leaving a stifling hot summer for the depths of the European winter to take part in a group exhibition. The exhibition Precise Operations was held at Factor 44, a space with a rich history of exhibitions, alternative events, performance and music. Noel’s exhibited work further examined his interest in the materials and construction of artworks and his works became their own container. The two paintings that address the white monochrome, were interlocked together to form a crate, and when opened, could be free-standing in the gallery. Noel has written about his experience in the Winter issue of Art News New Zealand on sale now.
