Our Director of Research, Anthony Byrt, recently worked on a project with artist Billy Apple on Waiheke Island. Entitled Billy Apple®: Official Selection, the exhibition was part of the global celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Billy Apple brand. The exhibition consisted of an edition of 50 wine cases, designed by Apple. Each contained six bottles of wine from Waiheke’s premium 2010 vintage. Anthony wrote the accompanying catalogue, which placed the project in the context of Apple’s earlier collaborations with New Zealand winemakers, and examined how these projects relate to Apple’s brand and identity.
Anthony has also written a major interview with Apple for one of the world’s most prestigious art magazines, frieze, which was published in November. Apple - one of New Zealand’s most influential artists - has been a guest lecturer at Whitecliffe on several occasions.
