Over the past four weeks, six teams of budding designers from the Whitecliffe Fashion Department have been working on a tough task, create a piece of high end fashion and have it ready to be revealed at New Zealand Fashion Week 2012. Mentored by internationally renowned Kiwi designer Adrian Hailwood, the unique challenge to these students was to take their inspiration from one of six Kim Crawford wine varietals and produce something quite out of the ordinary. Adrian Hailwood said: "This is the real deal. These guys have got to design something which is out of the ordinary but have sales appeal – all in a short time frame. There are no gimmicks, just their talent, wits and $250 of material from Global Fabrics. I made it harder by splitting their chosen teams up to make each designers work with their 'frenemies!' This worked extremely well as they had different design aesthetics and I think they were surprised by their final outcomes.I know I certainly was!"
