Three days before leaving for China, Whitecliffe had the pleasure of showing a delegation from the Suzhou Art & Design Institute around Whitecliffe. Mr Liao President of the Suzhou Institute presented Whitecliffe with an artwork symbolizing the link between the two countries and institutions.
Whitecliffe Senior lecturer John Horner reciprocated by painting a waterfront scene of Auckland, which he presented to the delegation. Not realising at the time of organising this that the President and the Dean of the College would be flying to Shanghai on the same flight four days later, Mr Liao called it “serendipitous and that this connection was meant to be” Mr Liao graciously offered his assistance of transportation from the Shanghai Airport to the hotel in the Garden City, Suzhou which is a two and half hour ride away from Shanghai. Suzhou Institute of Art & Design were fantastic hosts providing transport, meals and a wonderful tour of their institution. The School of Art at Suzhou University and the Suzhou Industrial Park of Vocational Technology were also visited in Suzhou. Whitecliffe looks forward to future relationships with Art & Design Institutes in Suzhou.
