Whitecliffe students Crystal Fa’asolo, Forrester McKee, Christian Wolfgramm and Beau Takapu attended the Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust weekend field trip to Wellington. As Christina Jeffery manager of the Tautai Trust said, “ I think it is fair to say that it will have been an (almost) life changing weekend for some of the students. It was really very satisfying for me to watch all the interaction, and listen to the wide ranging conversations.”
The Tautai Trust engages an established Pacific artist to visit Pacific heritage students at Auckland tertiary institutions. The young emerging pacific artists strongly value the contact with established successful artists and the visits provide the basis of an informal ‘mentoring’ system that has evolved over time. Tautai strives to increase its contact with Pacific students so as to meet their needs and to provide opportunities for them to be involved with senior practicing Pacific artists. Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust is calling for expressions of interest from senior Pacific heritage tertiary students wishing to exhibit works as part of the annual tertiary exhibition held at ST Paul St Gallery, AUT University. Submissions should be sent by the 31st May 2012.
