The academic year got off to a great start with a very successful Master of Fine Arts six-day seminar in January which saw eleven new MFA students welcomed on to the programme joining the returning second year students. Professor Andrew Atkinson, the Director of the MFA in Studio Art Programme at Montclair State University in New York, was the international external assessor and guest presenter. Andrew is a lecturer, photographer, critic, and curator. He holds a PhD from the Centre for Fine Print Research at the University of the West of England and is working on a book on the Woodburytype. He has curated exhibitions in the United States and Italy and exhibits internationally. He writes for Afterimage and the Architect's Newspaper and is a board member of the Society of Photographic Education Mid-Atlantic. Faculty gave presentations in relation to the seminar theme, looking at diverse aspects of cultural theory from the standpoint of their own studio practices and experience.
