Whitecliffe Year 4 BFA Graphic Design major students, Fraser Bingham, Yuna Lee, Grace Kim and Caitlin Thompson are finalists in the student category in the Best Awards for 2011. The Best Awards are run by the Design Institute of New Zealand and are the most prestigious design award in New Zealand. The students were selected as finalists based on their identity and promotional material that was designed for Pearce Gallery last year. The awards will be judged on October 7.
An initiative of The Designer’s Institute of New Zealand, The Best Design Awards is the annual showcase of excellence in graphic, spatial, product, and interactive design. In 1988 the Best New Zealand Design Awards was established to showcase the effectiveness of graphic design. It celebrated New Zealand designers and enabled a growing community to benefit from the experience of a jury of international peers. In 1992 the awards were expanded to include the disciplines of Interior Design, Product Design, Fashion Design, and Craft. In 2010 the Interactive Design category was established as a discipline in its own right. In addition, new trophies were added to the awards along with a refreshed Best Design Awards Identity programme.
