Wallace Art Awards

James Wallace established the Annual Wallace Art Awards 19 years ago. These awards are now the longest surviving and largest annual art awards of their kind in New Zealand, with a prize value amounting to over $160,000. The four winners receive valuable residencies at prestigious institutions. Many of the works produced by the winners and finalists of the Awards are purchased by the Trust each year to add to the Collection.

Among the finalists this year from Whitecliffe: HOD Fine Arts Noel Ivanoff, Fine Arts lecturer Matt Ellwood, Fine Arts lecturer Jill Sorensen, Foundation Lecturer Yolunda Hickman, 2009 BFA Graduate (Photography major) Yoon Tae Kim and 2008 Whitecliffe MFA graduate Lee Harrop.

The Award night will be held on Monday September 5.

The TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre at 72 Hillsborough Road is open Tuesday to Friday from 11a.m. - 4p.m., and Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays from 10a.m. - 5p.m.
