Two recent Whitecliffe BFA degree Fashion Design Graduates, Julia Campbell and Nour Hassan were selected as finalists for the 2011 iD Awards. Opening doors into fashion careers from iD Dunedin’s runway to catwalks in Milan and New York, the 31 finalists showcased their collections on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Lion Foundation Arena, Edgar Stadium, Dunedin, New Zealand. Congratulations to Julia who was awarded the Pacific Blue Prize of return flights for two to Brisbane, Australia.
Now in its seventh year, the 2011 iD International Emerging Designer Awards attracted more than 120 entries from 20 countries, representing some of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world. The finalists are from nine different countries and despite increasing global competition; the number of New Zealand and Australian finalists were up from previous years. The finalists’ collections represent the best of emerging fashion design, with creative and inspirational uses of textiles and new fabric technologies. In the past two years that Whitecliffe BFA Fashion Design students have entered the iD Awards they have successfully reached the finals.
The iD Awards is the only fashion competition of its kind in New Zealand offering rising national and international fashion design talent their first foray into the world of professional fashion events. For many, this experience serves as their rite of passage into the fashion industry.
