Four of our talented Bachelor of Design + Digital Media students are among the finalists in this year’s Best Design Awards, presented by the Designers Institute of New Zealand. The annual awards celebrate excellence in design across Aotearoa, recognising projects that push boundaries in innovation, storytelling and creative impact.
This year’s finalists — Bradley Jones, Isabelle Cassidy, Jessica Park, and Zoe White — were recognised in the Student & Academic Graphics category for their distinctive design projects.
Bradley Jones’ project Ad Astra responds to New Zealand’s youth literacy crisis through creative storytelling. Combining a hand-bound illustrated children’s book with a website, Ad Astra promotes literacy by making reading an engaging, shared experience between children and adults.
Isabelle Cassidy’s Dionysia transforms Greek mythology into a contemporary dining concept inspired by Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. Through detailed packaging, branding, and immersive storytelling, the project merges culture and design to create a rich, interactive experience.
Jessica Park’s Golden Records reimagines NASA’s 1977 Voyager time capsule for a modern audience. Her editorial design translates complex scientific archives into an accessible and emotionally resonant publication that connects humanity across time and space.
Zoe White’s Perspective is a documentary photography project that challenges stereotypes about Malawi. Combining a photo book and companion website, the work highlights stories of resilience and joy, using authentic storytelling to foster empathy and cultural understanding.
These finalist nominations are a proud moment for Whitecliffe and reflect the thoughtful work our students continue to produce. Each project highlights how design can be used to tell stories, share perspectives, and connect people in meaningful ways.
Whitecliffe congratulates Bradley, Isabelle, Jessica, and Zoe along with all the finalists for their dedication and contribution to New Zealand’s vibrant design community.
