Debra Denny

Programme Leader, Fashion Technology Programmes

School of Fashion + Sustainability

Growing up in a family of tailors and dressmakers, Debra was encouraged from a young age to create her own clothes with a varying degree of success. This was the catalyst that inspired her journey into fashion education; first as a student and later, as a practitioner of fashion education.

Debra is a fashion graduate of AUT University and has a Tertiary Teaching Diploma from MIT.

After working in production management, as a patternmaker and running her own childrenswear business, Debra joined the Fashion Tech team in 1997, shortly after the company was formed. She has seen the institute grow and evolve to service the commercial fashion needs of New Zealand.

Academic Leader since 2008, Debra has played a key role in driving the development, approval and implementation of the Whitecliffe Fashion Tech programmes. She has been fortunate to lead exciting student projects with Kleenex Cottonelle and a long-standing collaboration with Resene, and has represented Whitecliffe Fashion Tech in India three years in a row.
