Dissertation Topic: "Confluences: Aesthetic Experience and the Numinous", an investigation into the psychological and cultural elements that may play a role in influencing aesthetic responsiveness to art.
Ellen's studio practice, based on Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand, is concerned with the visual impact of elemental forces powerfully in evidence in New Zealand, as a point of departure for her work. Magnified or distant views, aerial views, and other non-representational “points of view” of natural phenomena inform her works.
Ellen's paintings have been shown in numerous group exhibitions in New Zealand. She has been a finalist in the Walker and Hall National Art Award for the past three years, and her works are in private collections in New Zealand and the U.S. She teaches painting workshops throughout New Zealand and on Waiheke Island.
