While studying at Whitecliffe Amber gained significant experience and skills within
the industry, interning or working for internationally recognized label Pumpkin Patch Ltd. and emerging
local designers Lucie Boshier and Tara Cunniffe. Along with other Whitecliffe Fashion Design students Amber also interned at New Zealand Fashion Week helping
backstage with the shows and assisting international buyers.
After graduating Amber worked for Trelise Cooper for three years before travelling to Europe and then on her return to New Zealand she set up a well-supported Fashion blog, spent two years as Marketing Manager for textile and trimmings specialist Hawes & Freer, and now has her own fashion design and retail business AW Amber Whitecliffe, located in Parnell, Auckland.
“I recently set up my own fashion label and I am involved with the entire process; marketing, accounting, managing staff, patternmaking, cutting, sewing and selling. It’s a little crazy,” says fashion designer Amber Whitecliffe who graduated in 2009.
“I love the creative freedom of being my own boss. I enjoyed working for people but I always had my own ideas that I wanted to express. I also like the fact that the harder I work the more rewards I get.”
She says Whitecliffe provided amazing opportunities.
“We had many internship opportunities and other experiences outside of the classroom such as New Zealand Fashion Week. I also really enjoyed the four-year process of developing and finding my own creative voice.”
Amber won the runner-up place in the Miramoda Fashion Awards and will present two new collections at New Zealand Fashion Week 2014 - one in the Miramoda Show and one in the Next Generation Show.
