Abbey started as a Design Assistant at Charles Parsons directly after leaving Whitecliffe which has lead to an exciting role of buying and design. Her current Range Designer role is to collaboratively produce seasonal textile ranges which are sold to Fashion Designers in New Zealand, Australia, USA and the United Kingdom. The product is sourced by travelling on buying trips to Textile Fairs in Paris and travelling to countries around Asia, such as China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan visiting mills to view their latest collections. Abbey is currently learning Mandarin to aid in travel and communication with suppliers. Each print or base cloth chosen for the range is then re-coloured in the upcoming season’s colours and original designs are produced using Photoshop and Illustrator. Throughout production of the range it is essential to research colour and trend information using forecasting tools such as WGSN, Style Sight and Textile view magazines. These sources as well as a vast amount of retail research in various countries throughout buying trips help to put together up to minute ranges which are internationally recognised.
