Christina Read emigrated from the United Kingdom in 2003. She has an MFA from Elam School of Fine Art, University of Auckland and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kent Institute of Arts and Design, Canterbury, England. Themes central to her practice are; human anxieties, the bittersweet gaps between ideals and reality, humour and pathos.
Her exhibitions and awards include, ‘6 Ideas from the Database of Happiness’ at Headland on the Gulf, Waiheke Island 2011, ‘The Psychologist’s Bookshelf’ at Newcall Gallery, Auckland 2009 and being the recipient of the National Drawing Award, for her drawing ‘I should have been a detective’, 2006.
