Diane Quin completed her Bachelor of Arts in social sciences at Victoria Auckland in Wellington in 1971. In 1998 she completed her MFA (first class honours) at Elam School of Fine Arts, at Auckland University, and in 2008 a Graduate Diploma in Psychosocial Studies at AUT, Auckland. A photo-journalist in the 1970s, she exhibited as a photographer and was a member of Snaps Gallery photo-collective in the early 1980s, when she also worked as co-editor of PhotoForum magazine. For 20 years she worked as print media designer and publisher. In her studio-based practice she focuses on painting, photography and writing to engage with the nature of reality. Diane is Head of Department for Year One at Whitecliffe, where she has worked since 2001. In the Year One programme, she leads a core expressive project and teaches in the core design team, workshops and electives.
