TUTOR: ANITA LEVERING
This course is designed for both students who have some experience with abstract painting as well as for students who don’t know where to begin. Anita will assist the students in fine tuning a topic for their investigation and guide them through the process of creating an abstract painting. Students will be encouraged to use online resources for browsing contemporary abstract paintings.
Anita will also offer exercises and tutorials to investigate elements of abstraction such as line, color, tone, shape, gesture and texture, and to come to grips with the ideas surrounding abstraction.
Through making students will find their strengths and weaknesses, what excites them and what doesn’t. Anita will point them in the right direction for their area of interest but also assist with technical solutions, knowledge about paint, grounds or how to stretch their own canvas.
THE 6 WEEKS COURSE WILL RUN OVER 7 WEEKS FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING 22 FEBRUARY TO WEDNESDAY 5 APRIL (NO CLASS ON 15 MARCH)
EACH CLASS WILL START AT 6PM AND FINISH AT 9PM.
About Anita Levering:
Anita Levering has been teaching art for a long time at all levels both in the Netherlands and in New Zealand. Anita holds a MA from Elam (Auckland University) and is represented by Sanderson gallery (Auckland). Her abstract painting-based research explores issues connected to chance and intentionality, examining the unpredictability of external forces and chance procedures in the creation of abstract paintings. In her practice, Levering investigates the materiality of paint using addition, dissolution, accumulation, and subtraction or un-doing. Anita is represented by Sanderson Gallery and was the Second Runner up Paramount 20th Wallace Art Award (2011).
