Sculpture

This course serves as an Introduction to tikanga (protocols associated with raranga/harakeke).

Students will learn how to Identify and harvest harakeke for weaving projects.

The course includes demonstrations on the methods for preparation and storage of harakeke for weaving projects and students will be introduced to weaving techniques for Puti puti, (woven flower forms), three dimensional kete (baskets): Kono, a simple food basket and Waikawa, (large storage basket)

This course introduces students to some of the techniques used in sculpture making with the aim of creating interesting and experimental 3D pieces. Processes such as modelling, casting, mould-making, constructing will be used to create small to medium sized work, allowing students to explore the use of different materials and approaches. Materials such as clay, plaster, wire, found objects, and mixed media will be used in the making process. Students are free to explore ideas/concepts within their work or simply enjoy the practical nature of learning 3D methods.
