Drawing & Illustration

Students in this course will be taught the basic skills of figurative drawing either for the purpose of Fashion Design or for Illustration. The class will be adapted to individual strengths and whichever of these two disciplines students wish to develop.

Fashion Illustration: students will be shown how to structure the figure as a coat hanger for fashion drapery where the figure is elongated to create the desired elegance and beauty that best presents a design concept.

Figure Illustration: students will be shown the skills required to accurately and sensitively draw a life figure using personally selected photographic images for the subject matter

Gain confidence and problem solving skills to get the most out of your observational drawing practice. Learn how to use a wide range of drawing mediums in black and colour, such as pencil, willow charcoal, conte, ink, chalk and pastels. Achieve believable 3D illusions, without losing your personal style, through short warm up exercises and sustained drawings to develop 'looking' skills, hand dexterity and a technical knowledge about tone, proportion and composition. Students are encouraged to bring objects and or pictures to classes that they are interested in drawing, however a selection of still life objects are available.

Great for beginners, students needing extra skills to create portfolios and anyone returning to creative practices.
