Fine Arts Graduate Kohl Ellice Tyler-Dunshea Debuts Shoe Collaboration with Merchant 1948

2016 BFA Fine Arts graduate Kohl Ellice Tyler-Dunshea has collaborated with Merchant 1948 to design the 'Kohl for Isabella Anselmi' shoe collection. Kohl told us that Louise Anselmi from Merchant saw her paintings at the 2016 Whitecliffe Graduate show held last November. Louise and Kohl then discussed the potential to collaborate and design delicate floral fabric for the company. Kohl says "I was able to work pretty similarly to how I'd work when creating an artwork. I began by collecting Taurepō flowers from the Waitakere Ranges and Lobelia flowers from my garden. I then pressed the plants in a custom made press to dry and preserve them and finally, I used them as a reference to paint from. The design team at Merchant gave me so much freedom and made sure my designs translated to fabric really well."

Follow the link here to purchase a pair of your own shoes. $5 from each pair sold will be donated to NZ organisations Youthline and GreatPotentials through the Merchant Young Hearts Project.

Kohl was also featured in Viva - The New Zealand Herald and Fashion Quarterly recently talking about her practice, exhibitions and work opportunities since graduating last year.
