2014 Whitecliffe End of Year Exhibitions and Fashion Show

Whitecliffe recently held its annual End of Year Student Exhibitions, celebrating student artworks and designs from throughout the year. Over three hundred Foundation, Year One, Two, Three and Four students exhibited, drawing hundreds of visitors to our gallery and studio spaces. Commenting on the Year Four shows, Head of Department Fine Arts Noel Ivanoff said “the 2014 graduating exhibitions were impressive for their range and overall standard. The work reflected each student’s learning over the BFA Degree, but also their confidence and willingness to use the final exhibition as a chance to extend themselves, creating a sense of ambition and energy.” Head of Department Photography Becky Nunes also remarked on the graduating photography students shows stating “this year, the students produced an excellent standard of work for their final exhibitions. Projects ranged across media, including moving image, sound, digital prints, cynaotypes and large format film photography. This breadth of investigation and richness of outcomes demonstrates the multiple modes in which lens-based artists are communicating their ideas now.”

Whitecliffe undergraduate students were also awarded prizes for their achievements at some of the exhibitions. The Year Two Photography award went to Georgia Perriam. In Graphic Design, prizes sponsored by ANZ went to Harrison Sarsfield (Year Two), Caroline Konarkowska (Year Three) and Jeannie Burnside (Year Four).

2014 Whitecliffe Fashion Show

The Whitecliffe Fashion Show was held on 22 November at Viaduct Events Centre with forty-three Fashion Design students from Years Two, Three and Four debuting their runway collections. Actor Jennifer Ward-Lealand compered the event, which hosted nearly 1000 industry professionals, media, sponsors, supportive family members and friends. Head of Department Fashion Design Belinda Watt commented on the successful event, “the Fashion Show is an exciting platform where our students can showcase their work to the highest professional level. It is an opportunity for the young designers to take ownership of their presentation and to emphasise the individuality of their design aesthetics through specific styling and music choices to enhance their concept. At Whitecliffe, we set an open brief so that students are free to explore and research their own concept, develop a personal design style and produce a cohesive body of work that is truly individual.”
