For the Big Day Art, January 2014, Fine Arts Senior Lecturer Matt Ellwood presented the research methodologies behind his recent Smoking Tom Ford series of charcoal drawings. Matt discussed his work whilst it was on display on the large central table in the E H McCormick Research Library. His talk gave insight into his concepts, research, experimentation, drawing process, and exhibition strategies.
The event was also organised in conjunction with On the Table, a project that brings drawing into public spaces. On the Table was founded by artist Renato Orara at The Drawing Center, New York and will take place in library reading rooms in cities all over the world, a testament to the Drawing Center’s far reaching Viewing Program Artist Registry.
The work was on display for a further week, which coincided with the recent MFA seminar and Matt gave a talk for them on site also.
