Molly Morpeth Canaday Award Winner Every year, the Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award attracts interest from artists throughout NZ. This exhibition has grown and become a key event for emerging and established artists in NZ. This year, further to the 2012 winning success of Whitecliffe Master of Fine Arts alumna, Virginia Leonard, yet another Whitecliffe graduate won acclaim. Lesley Falls, 2006 MFA alumna, was runner up to winner Peter Miller, receiving the Craigs Investment Partners Award worth $2,500.  Judge Victoria Edwards, said of Falls’ work: “Leslie Falls' work The Wonders of Modern Medicine is both humorous and ironic. It tests our perceptions about what drawing is...or can be? This artist draws with embroidery thread on an un-stretched wool substrate/surface. She demonstrates restraint in her choice of colour and maximises the erotic/sensual potential of the pink/black combination. The work critiques the role of women, their responsibilities and capabilities as judged by men in the early part of the last century."
