Artist In Residence at Whitecliffe

Welcome to Dana Hemes, Artist in residence at Whitecliffe for a month from the end of June, Dana is studying towards an MFA at Montclair State University, New Jersey, and also works at the University as a Graduate Assistant. While at Whitecliffe she is working out of Studio 4 and is capturing her stay in New Zealand in a rather unique way. Upon entering New Zealand Dana was stopped at Customs where officers proceeded to wipe clean the soles of her shoes. The act of wiping her shoes of the traces where she had been inspired Dana to trace her stay in New Zealand more literally. By taking samples from the soles of her shoes, Dana is recording the exact point where she connects with the places she visits. In an extension of work she is involved in at Montclair, Dana is co-labouring the microscopic organisms by cultivating them on large, translucent agar panels. Dana will display her work at Whitecliffe before the end of her stay, check Facebook for the date and see more of Dana's work here
