Faculty Matt Elwood Judges National Small Sculpture Award

Senior Lecturer Matt Ellwood was invited to judge the National Small Sculpture Prize awarded by the Waiheke Community Art Gallery. The 100 entries came from throughout the country for the only national award exhibition for small sculpture held in New Zealand. Among the 31 finalists were Whitecliffe BFA Alumni Michelle Beattie and Priscilla Hunter, along with past diploma-student Sarah Jansen and previous Year 1 and Graphic Design Lecturer Zoe Nash. Raglan artist Stuart Bridson, was announced the winner by Ellwood at the gala event on 4th May. Matt says Stuart won the Award of $3000 with “a sculpture of a sculpture, or not a sculpture itself, but a provocation to the viewer to engage with the elements and instructions within the box to construct the sculpture.” The exhibition of finalists is on show until June 6th.
