Wikiriwhi Award

Daphne Simons was the 2012 Wikiriwhi Award Recipient

The Wikiriwhi Scholarship for the top Year 3 student entering YR 4 was modified in 2009 to reflect the late co-founder Greg Whitecliffe’s desire that his students experience art opportunities overseas. Daphne Simons, the fourth recipient of this overseas experience, will travel to the United States to participate in post graduate workshops and lectures at Whitecliffe’s affiliate college Montclair State University. Daphne will also be shown around New York and visit the many galleries by Montclair Year 3 student Laken Whitecliffe.

On Daphne’s application to enter the BFA programme, her letter of intent spoke of the passion she had for her art. She wrote “I am very serious about studying art and pursuing it as a fruitful career. Art is my life, I paint and create because I love to do so, but I paint not just for myself, although it does seem to hold therapeutic qualities, I paint with others in mind, I am constantly aiming to affect as many people as possible with my work.” Daphne’s passion for her art has been quite apparent and has maintained an A Grade average over the last three years. Daphne will be another great ambassador from Whitecliffe.
