Emerging Artist of the Year Award

The New Zealand Children’s Art House Foundation Emerging Artist of the Year Award was established in 1998. This award is given out to young students in the creative arts including, Theatre, Music and Art.

Keisha Castle Hughes won this award in 2003 but since then three Whitecliffe students have won this award: Sasha Stejko was the recipient in 2007 Daphne Simons in 2009 and now Laken Whitecliffe has received the award for 2012. The aim of the Foundation is to acknowledge the gifted and talented children and youth in our communities who show unique and original abilities, which serve others. It has been awarded annually to a young person who has been recognised from an early age as a true artist in their chosen field. While the award has no monetary value we believe that this signal honouring will serve the recipient well in the future.
