Year One Portrait Exhibition Close Up

In four days of intense studio activity, Year One students were required to complete a self-portrait in paint. Clear parameters were set in which the students were guided in an exploration of colour to expand their understanding of colour theory and tonal painting. Students had to scale a small photographic source to a larger format using a specific 96-square grid to create a minimum of 384 spaces. Each required a minimum of two colours; at least 960 colour mixes overall.
