Artist in Residence Takuro Kotaka

S-AIR 2012 Award.

Whitecliffe selected artist in residence Takuro Kotaka, born in 1984, lives and works in Saitama Japan. He has produced video works and performances based on the documentation and experience during his journey to several parts of the world, including Indonesia and Africa. He films everyday life, but also engages with people through his performances or through his imaginary narratives and hypotheses. The videos show his reflections on several issues surrounding cultural communication, otherness, history, and narrative.

Takuro will be on campus through March 2012 to promote and exchange ideas and practices between New Zealand and Japan. The Takuro Kotaka exhibition runs 20-24 March at the Pearce Gallery St. Georges Bay Road, Parnell.
